Konrad J. Obermeier

Role: CE Workshop Teacher, Teacher
Certified Rolfer®, Certified Advanced Rolfer®, Mentor, Rolf Movement™ Practitioner

Konrad Obermeier became a Certified Rolfer® in 1991 and a Certified Advanced Rolfer® in 1994. Since 2009 he has been a member of the Life Sciences Faculty of the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute of Structural Integration (DIRI, Boulder, CO, USA) and teaches Anatomy for the European Rolfing® Association e.V.

Before Rolfing

Konrad studied Communications and Anthropology at the University of Munich which was followed by extensive travels which led him to India where he did Yoga-teacher training in Kerala in 1988/89.

Inspiration to train in Rolfing®

“I felt personally very touched by the sessions – my background of an upbringing in a rigid cultural environment, in combination with the traditional but exotic Indian Yoga that I was learning, was leading me to ask for more explanation.

I have also always had a fascination with the plasticity of the human form and so in addition to Yoga, have studied many different somatic approaches such as Biomechanics, Continuum Movement, Osteopathy, Cranio-Sacral work and, specifically, Embryology. For me, the impact of culture on the human body and its potential is an ongoing field of research.”

Teaching Method

“At times my teaching is quite challenging and cognitive as I provide lots of information in a lecture, but this always comes with an alive and active performance that makes the material presented a rich experience and invites the student to embody. There is no ‘technique’ to teach Rolfing, there is instead a shared space, between student and teacher, and of understanding the body and life in a specific way.”
